Biomimicry design

Lilian van Daal is a Dutch product designer who uses biomimicry and nature-inspired design to merge the natural and the artificial world. By experimenting with advanced technologies and materials, she recreates natural structures to develop sustainable, efficient production methods. Her designs uncover nature’s ingenious solutions, refined over millions of years, and apply them to modern-day challenges.

RECONNECTION WITH NATURE

Lilian’s work promotes well-being through natural design. Scientific research confirms that surrounding ourselves with nature improves mental, emotional, and physical health, also known as biophilic design. Her objects bring this sense of “naturalness” into everyday life. As people reconnect with nature, they are also more likely to care for and protect the Earth.

cross-disciplinary collaboration

To realize her vision, she collaborates with scientists, biologists, universities, architects, and companies. This blend of disciplines ensures her designs are grounded in biology, while still innovative and applicable in real-world contexts.

global recognition

Her award-winning work has been exhibited worldwide and acquired by institutions like Centre Pompidou (Paris) and NEOM (Saudi Arabia). She previously worked with renowned studios such as Philips Design, Studio Drift, Feiz Design, Bleijh Concept & Design and StudioMOM.

Lilian holds a degree in Industrial Product Design and completed a postgraduate conceptual design course at the Royal College of Art in The Hague.
