3D PRINTED IN ONE SINGLE MATERIAL
The biomimicry phone booths are walk‑in phone pods 3‑D‑printed in one continuous material.
Their geometry is modelled on the logarithmic shell spiral, a natural form that dissipates sound while guiding it away from the entrance. Just as a shell protects soft tissue, each booth wraps the user in a calm acoustic micro‑climate amid a busy open office. These booths serve as striking visual elements within the space while addressing the issue of increasing environmental noise pollution in work environments
Biomimicry IN PRACTICE
Biomimicry is applied in this design through a single-material strategy that mirrors nature’s efficiency using 3D-printed concrete to fulfill multiple functions at once. The material provides both structural strength and acoustic performance, with its mass blocking external noise and its ridged surface diffusing internal echoes. The spiral form, inspired by natural shell geometries, guides sound along a curved path, breaking direct noise lines and gradually lowering sound pressure as the corridor widens. This integrated approach eliminates the need for additional materials or finishes, reducing complexity, adhesives, and end-of-life waste.
